Description

The new Schloss Weißenstein Park Trail in Matrei in Osttirol is a joint project between Felbertauernstraße AG and the Hohe Tauern National Park in Tyrol. The trail takes visitors through the idyllic castle grounds, across near-natural meadows with a remarkable diversity of plant and animal species, and through impressive stands of ancient trees. It invites visitors to discover the unique landscape and biodiversity of Osttirol.

At eleven information points, visitors can learn fascinating details about the plants and animals that live here, the history of Weißenstein Castle and the Felbertauernstraße.

Impressive highlights along the trail include the wrought-iron sculptures by Erich Trost, a metalwork artist from Matrei whose fame extends far beyond the region’s borders.
