A new nature experience in Prägraten - winter hike

When the low winter sun bathes the "Sonnenbalkon von Prägraten" in golden light, a very special tour begins: Every Thursday at 12.00 p.m., national park rangers guide interested nature lovers along the newly established winter hiking trail Bichl through an impressive cultural landscape on the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
Right at the start, the ancient hamlet of Bichl enchants with its traditional farms and sunny hillside location. From here, the path gently continues through so-called "larch pastures," a centuries-old cultural landscape that unfolds a quiet, almost mystical atmosphere in the snow.
Along the way, the rangers share exciting knowledge about the animal and plant world in mid-winter and show how cleverly nature has adapted to these harsh conditions. At the bird feeding place, this becomes particularly lively: With a bit of luck, numerous native songbirds and playful squirrels can be observed while feeding.
“Winter shows us how much life exists even in silence,” says ranger Sophie enthusiastically. “This tour is especially ideal to truly experience the interplay between humans and nature – slowly, attentively, and accompanied by fascinating stories.”
The guided hike on the winter hiking trail Bichl is ideal for everyone who wants to discover East Tyrol's winter landscape with open eyes – calm, enjoyable, and close to nature.

11:45 a.m. Prägraten am Großvenediger Tourist Office – then carpool to the parking lot in Bichl 12:00 p.m. above Prägraten, the meeting point can be reached by public transportation – but not the starting point – which is located above Prägraten, about a half-hour walk away.
