Nature Watch - Tracking trails in the Defereggen Valley

Explore the realm of the ibex, chamois, eagle & bearded vulture on snowshoes:
Geared with a spotting scopes and binoculars, we trudge together on crunching snow and follow the tracks of wild animals in the snow-covered Defereggen Valley on the border to South Tyrol.

With the right equipment, we will get a close-up glimpse of the small and large wild animals and the special features of the Hohe Tauern National Park on guided ranger hikes. The trained eyes of our rangers can spot the National Park inhabitants in the deep snow-covered winter landscape on the Stattler Sattel or around Patsch (depending on snow and avalanche conditions) and will pass on their expert knowledge of nature to you.

The rangers also explain the survival tactics of the flora and fauna in the frosty season and share loads of interesting and worthwhile knowledge in the midst of the stunning East Tyrolean mountainscape.

Meeting point: St Jakob tourism information office (individual ride to the starting points, depending on snow and avalanche conditions)

Arrival Information

From Carinthia or Italy via Lienz to Huben – junction Defereggental to St. Jakob Ort – Tourist office

Via the Felbertauern also to the junction Huben to St. Jakob

Depending on the conditions and weather conditions, the ski bus takes you either to Erlsbach or to the Staller Sattel.
